OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH

1) We believe in one God who exists eternally in three persons as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Holy Trinity is omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, co-eternal, of equal dignity, has the same nature and attributes, and created all things that exist.

2) We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ as the eternal Son of God and the second person of the Trinity. We affirm that He was begotten of the Father, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, is true God and true man, and remained sinless in His humanity. Jesus died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins to make provision for the redemption of mankind. His death was substitutionary and vicarious. He arose bodily from the dead on the third day in the same body, ascended to heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father and serves as our High Priest and Advocate.

3) We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person in the Trinity. We affirm that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, regenerate the believing sinner, seal believers until Christ comes again, indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer with various gifts for godly living and service.

4) We believe that the Holy Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are the inspired, inerrant, infallible and the authoritative Word of God given by divine inspiration through the Holy Spirit through human writers as designated by God. We affirm that the Holy Scriptures are the sole authority for the Church, and therefore, the final authority for all doctrine and practice. We affirm that the Holy Scriptures are to be studied, believed, and obeyed as God’s Holy Word and command.

5) We believe that mankind was created by God in His own image and that mankind sinned and received the penalty of both physical and spiritual death. We also believe that this spiritual death, or total depravity of human nature, has been transmitted to the entire human race, and that unless a person is born again, will face everlasting punishment in hell, because that person is spiritually dead.

6) We believe that salvation is a free gift offered to man by God. Its basis is the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Man receives this free gift of eternal life by believing that Jesus Christ died for his sins, repenting of one’s sins, and receiving Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. Man in no way can earn his own way to heaven. Salvation is based solely on the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary, by the grace of God. The precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ cleanses from all sin anyone who accepts God’s free gift.

7) We believe that water baptism and the Lord’s Supper are ordinances to be observed by the Church during the present age. Baptism is an important action of obedience for a Christian and signifies a person’s identification with Christ. It is not a means of salvation. Instead, it is an outward manifestation of an inward reality of trust in the sacrifice for Christ, and of identification with Christ. The rite of water baptism does not save anyone. We are made right before God by grace through faith.

8) We believe in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. This event is the Blessed Hope set before us in the Scriptures, and His return will be personal, imminent, visible, bodily and glorious. He will come with those who have already died in Christ and will come to receive those who have remained on earth until His coming. We affirm the bodily resurrection of the dead, the everlasting blessedness of the saved in heaven, and the everlasting and agonizing punishment of the unsaved in hell away from the presence of God. We encourage all believers to be constantly ready and looking, since it can occur at any moment.

9) We believe that all who have a genuine saving faith in Jesus Christ, having been regenerated by the Holy Spirit, and having a living and personal relationship with Jesus Christ, are members of the true church. We affirm that the true church forms one body that is Christ’s and that this body goes beyond denominational lines. Only those who are members of the true Church shall be eligible for membership in Centerpoint Community Church.

10) We believe that the church is meant to be God’s community on earth and that mankind was created for community. As such, authentic relationship with Christ must equal authentic relationship with one other. We will uphold and honor Jesus’ command, “Love each other as I have loved you.” (John 15:12). Those wishing to become members must honor and respect one another with the love of Christ. We encourage everyone at Centerpoint to form an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ so that each and everyone can form significant relationships with each other. We affirm the statement: “In fundamentals unity, in non-essentials liberty, and in all things charity.” To touch each other with the power of the risen Christ is essential.
